Using Open OnDemand
Open OnDemand provides a web-based interface for accessing VHPC. You can use it to manage files, open a command-line shell, monitor jobs, and run interactive applications directly from a browser.
Open OnDemand uses your existing VHPC account, permissions, storage, project memberships, and software access.

Connect to the KSU VPN
Before accessing Open OnDemand, connect to the KSU VPN-Groups service.
You'll need to connect to our VPN to access the Kennesaw State University VHPC. To begin, open your web browser to vpn-groups.kennesaw.edu, then install the appropriate GlobalProtect VPN client for your computer.
Warning
If you already have a GlobalProtect VPN client installed, make
sure you have a connection for vpn-groups.kennesaw.edu, not
vpn.kennesaw.edu. Using the vpn.kennesaw.edu gateway
will not allow you to access the VHPC.
Access Open OnDemand
After connecting to VPN-Groups, open:
Sign in using your Kennesaw State University NetID and complete any required authentication prompts.
What You Can Do
Open OnDemand provides browser-based access to common VHPC tasks, including:
- Browsing, uploading, downloading, and lightly editing files
- Opening a command-line shell on a VHPC login node
- Finding available software with the Module Browser
- Viewing VHPC system status
- Monitoring queued and running Slurm jobs
- Launching Jupyter, MATLAB, GaussView, and graphical desktop sessions
- Reconnecting to running interactive sessions
The applications, accounts, and storage locations available to you depend on your VHPC access and project memberships.

Start a lightweight graphical Linux desktop on a VHPC compute node and reconnect to it through your browser.

Important Usage Notes
Open OnDemand provides another way to access VHPC resources; normal VHPC policies still apply.
- Run computationally intensive work on compute nodes rather than login nodes.
- Request only the resources reasonably required for your work.
- Save important files to persistent VHPC storage.
- Save application work regularly.
- Cancel interactive sessions when you are finished.
- Use approved data-transfer tools for large files or datasets.
- Do not share passwords, authentication codes, or active session links.

When reporting a problem, include:
- Your NetID
- The approximate date and time the problem occurred
- The Open OnDemand page or application involved
- A description of what you were attempting to do
- Any visible error message
- The Slurm job ID or interactive session ID, when available
